Columbia Valley, Washington
The 2018 Poet’s Leap Riesling is an equal blend of three distinct vineyards. German clones from The Benches in the Horse Heaven Hills provide appealing minerality. Yakima Valley’s Phil Church Vineyard contributes citrus aromas and flavors. Dionysus Riesling, from vines planted in 1972, adds vibrant acidity and stone fruit characteristics.
Hand-picked grapes were sorted and gently whole-cluster pressed to preserve the grapes’ delicate aromas and flavors without imparting bitterness. After pressing, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at a cool 60°F to preserve fresh fruit characteristics. Each lot was fermented and held separately to allow the winemakers maximum flexibility at the blending table to assemble a perfectly balanced wine.
