This wine is 100% Chardonnay sourced from the Zio Tony Ranch, which was planted in 1990 by the Martinelli family. Zio Tony Ranch is located on Frei Road in the heart of the Russian River’s cool Green Valley. Patz & Hall sources from two specific parcels that are planted on top of a gently sloping hill to Dijon Chardonnay clones 76 and 95, on well-drained, low vigor, Goldridge sandy loam soils. These iron-rich, reddish soils consistently produce fruit with great structure and acidity.
The grapes are whole cluster pressed. Fermentations are carried out using completely indigenous yeast. It is aged surlies in Burgundian French oak barrels (64% new) with weekly stirring and completes malo-lactic fermentation in barrel. Bottled without filtration.
