ADELANTE 2022 Malbec, Old Vines
La Consulta, Mendoza, Argentina
VINEYARD
Adelante is sourced from a single, sustainably farmed vineyard named Don Eugenio located in La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Argentina. La Consulta is one of the coolest and highest elevation regions within Mendoza, resulting in higher acidity, freshness, spice and complexity.
Don Eugenio vineyard is at an elevation of 3,000 feet and has soil composed of alluvial sand and clay on top of a deep strata of river rock. This vineyard was originally planted in 1946 and the current average age of the vines is 76 years old.
Vintage Notes: “It was a challenging growing year, but all the work done to improve the health of our vineyard paid off. Two big frosts made for a shorter time between the beginning and end of harvest. Our 76 year vineyard confirmed the adage of healthy old vines can deal with the stress of a difficult growing year. Due to the frost our yields were lower than in the past. We welcomed the warm weather at the end of the growing season allowing the grapes to reach phenolic maturity.”
CELLAR
The fruit is hand harvested in the vineyard. After the fruit was cold soaked for three days, it underwent native yeast fermentation, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. No SO2 was added until the malolactic fermentation was completed. Then 25% was aged in new French oak, 50% in old French oak, and the rest remained in tank to preserve freshness.
